The Pier 9 Residency Program gives creatives, innovators, and manufacturers a chance to work with us in our advanced digital fabrication workshops at Autodesk. Our residents explore every stage of the process of making things, from digital model to real-world physical objects. Together, we’re discovering ways to advance 3D design and fabrication technologies, to change design, engineering, and manufacturing as we know it.

Use production-quality equipment

Gain access to advanced CNC machines: a waterjet and 5-axis router, multi-material 3D printers, full metal and wood shops, electronics lab, and more. Build on your pre-existing skills with shop training from experts. Push the creative limits on some of the most cutting-edge machinery available today.
Be part of a creative community

Meet a mix of industry professionals, Autodesk specialists, and fellow creatives at Pier 9, in an environment of shared expertise and learning. Participate in a lively community fueled by camaraderie and innovation. Draw from a multifaceted network of technical support and expertise.
Access Autodesk design software and experts

Gain access to all Autodesk products and receive support from software evangelists at Pier 9, to push your design skills and help shape our products. Influence the next generation of creative software with your creative vision. Remove technical roadblocks by working in close proximity to expert software designers.
Get project consulting and build space

Get build space and 1-on-1 advice from the Pier 9 workshop team to create your project. Pier 9 is a resource and a space that inspires. Find support and collaborators to bring your ideas to life. Work in the heart of San Francisco at our unique waterfront space.

Pier 9 provides residents with the tools and resources to expand their practice in a diverse creative community. Our goal is to explore ideas that change or challenge the way things are made and how this impacts the world around us.

Events

Residents participate in our thriving community through skill sharing workshops, meetings, partner opportunities, and guest talks.
Workshop access

Pier 9 offices are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Residents have access to workshops during business hours and weekends pending availability of safety monitors.
Ownership

Residents own all of their intellectual property and physical work created at Pier 9 during their residency.
