Okay, this is not quite as cool as an actual Wakandan embassy coming to Oakland, but pretty damn close. Inspired by the success of their movie "Black Panther," Disney is giving $1 million to Boys and Girls Club to fund STEM learning programs around the country, including funding of a "STEM Center of Innovation" in Oakland.

According to Comingsoon.net:

Boys & Girls Clubs of America will use this one-time grant to further develop its existing national STEM curriculum, and also establish new STEM Centers of Innovation in Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Chicago, IL; Harlem, NY; Hartford, CT; Memphis, TN; New Orleans, LA; Orlando, FL; Philadelphia, PA; Washington, DC; Watts, CA, and most notably, Oakland, CA. Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Centers of Innovation provide youth with hands-on, advanced technologies that stimulate creative approaches to STEM exploration, including 3-D printers, robotics, high-definition video production and conferencing equipment.

Shuri, the sister of T'Chala aka the Black Panther, is my favorite character from the new film. She's smart, funny, and has a wonderful rapport with her brother. She's a teenager who's science knowledge drives much of the technical innovation of the Wakandan society. As a young Black woman, she's a great role model.

Who knows, maybe our next real life Shuri will come from Oaktown? That would be hella dope.
