As the Senior Instructional Design Lead at the California Academy of Sciences, I led the development and implementation of online courses supporting science and environmental education for non-experts.
Science Action Club was a program designed to provide much-needed science enrichment for middle-school age youth across the United States. Created to supplement existing science instruction, Science Action Clubs are semester-long, after school experiences that anyone — no matter their previous science or teaching experience — can lead with students.
To support the implementation of Science Action Club, I led the development of online courses that took prospective educators through a fun and engaging training that would prepare them to lead Science Action Club with fidelity and confidence. At it’s height, Science Action was administered in 400+ after school settings in 22 states.
In this role, I:
- Oversaw digital-learning interventions that supported 1,600 educators, through three e-learning modules
- Managed partnerships with NASA, Smithsonian, and Cornell Lab of Ornithology to expand program reach.
- Championed the institution’s transition to blended learning and online facilitation, improving scalability and educator engagement.
- Led transition to new LMS to deliver high-quality learning experiences users, in collaboration with product, marketing, and design departments.
