Cal Academy and Ten Other “Museums with Pride” at SF Pride 2017!

I'm so proud of my museum and my colleagues for turning out for this year's San Francisco Pride Parade. I had a really fun time last year, but did wish we had a more organized presence. Well the Cal Academy upped our game for this year, I'm happy to report!

We had a great turn-out of about 16 museum staff, from education, exhibits, marketing, guest experience, public programs and more! And we looked pretty great in our coordinated Academy tee-shirts, butterfly costumes, and even a t-rex! We also had a big banner and giveaways for the audience.

We joined a much larger contingent of "Museums with Pride," which included colleagues from the Asian Art Museum, California Historical Society, Cartoon Art Museum, Contemporary Jewish Museum, Exploratorium, FAMSF, Museum of African Diaspora, The Tenderloin Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Walt Disney Family Museum.

It was a beautiful day for the Pride March, with thousands of cheering onlookers and seemingly hundreds of groups marching. I'm just happy that I got to be a part of it and do my little bit to support.

Love is love. Science is for everyone.
