The awesome Emily Graslie of the Field Museum of Chicago posted on her Instagram feed this simple but profound statement on the recent vandalism of the Mosul Museum by ISIS:
"Imagine if all our display cases – like this one – were empty.
As custodians of one of the great natural history museum collections in the world, The Field Museum is heartbroken by the recent destruction at the Mosul Museum and at other cultural heritage sites in Iraq.”
Such a powerful way to drive home the message of the importance of museums to our societies.
Here's some video of the ISIS thugs destroying irreplaceable artifacts at the Mosul Museum. It's painful to watch as a museum educator.
